The Community
Idalia's economy is agricultural based and has long been home to farmers and ranchers who have passed their heritage to their families for generations.
Idalia is a "can do" community with a long history of self-help. The original consolidated school, area churches, The Homestead Memorial community building and ballfields were built and maintained by volunteer labor. Community residents provide amenities such as a volunteer fire department and ambulance/EMT service. The school is the center of the community and host to many functions. With this in mind, a group of concerned residents formed a committee to explore the possibilities of building a new gymnasium for the school. The Idalia Vision Foundation was born, and through this foundation a preschool, gymnasium, computer lab, and nature center were built. The Foundation has provided an opportunity for scholarships and grants to be made available for all Idalia graduates.
Our community is still grounded in, and operates on, rural values. Proud of our heritage, we continue to explore new avenues to enhance our community and school. In 2012, a new school was built to accommodate our ever increasing enrollments and technology needs. Idalia is, and continues to be, a friendly, social, and welcoming school and community.
