The Role of State Assessments in Increasing Academic Achievement
Assessments
Idalia School District RJ-3 uses the following assessment programs to measure student growth each year and to help identify instructional strategies for students:
Local Assessments:
Dibels Next: K-5 students are assessed three times a year to measure reading level and growth. Students are progress monitored on a weekly, biweekly, and/or monthly basis.
NWEA Assessments: Students in grades K-10 are assessed three times a year to measure reading, language, math, and science levels.
CogAT Assessment: Students in grades 2 and 6 are given this assessment to help identify gifted and talented status.
State Assessments:
WIDA Screener: Students who indicate a home language other than English upon registering are given this assessment to measure English Language proficiency.
WIDA ACCESS: Students who are not fluent in English are given this assessment every January.
CMAS Language Arts (ELA) & Math: Administered to students in grades 3-8.
CMAS Science: Administered to students in grades 5, 8, and 11.
CoAlternate: Alternate assessments are given to students on modified curriculum.
PSAT: Administered to students in grades 9 and 10.
SAT: Administered to students in grade 11.
Parent Request for Exemption From State Assessments
By state requirement, Idalia School District RJ-3 has adopted policy IKA and IKA-R to address parent opt-out, paper/pencil options, and posting requirements.
